Micheal Liu
President
Michael is a UBC Faculty of Management alumni from Shanghai, China. The realm of finance has always fascinated him, and he has dedicated himself towards the pursuit of his private equity fund dream. Since Michael’s freshman year, he has utilized his summers working at different financial institutions. First it was at The Public Relation Department in a brokerage firm, then it was Equity Analyst and finally landed his first Private Equity internship at CITIC Capital for the summer of 2015. At CITIC Capital, he worked on numerous live deals including Uber’s fund raise, privatization of Qihoo 360(NYSE:QIHU) and YY. Inc (NASDAQ:YY), performing due diligence, comparable analysis, LBO modeling for target companies. Michael held a position with UBC Portfolio Management Group as a Material and Industrial Sector Head, and was appointed by the board to become UPMG's President to oversee the operation of the fund, and develop external connections. With Michael’s technical and interpersonal skills, he lead UPMG to push its success even further, while ensured that it stays on the track of its original mission and vision.
John Martin
VP of Fixed Income and Risk Management
John was a UBC Faculty of Management Student from Fort McMurray, AB. As an avid participant in financial markets, John quickly made connections with the Portfolio Management Group and he has solidified himself as a constant source of market analysis and trading insights. During the 2015 Montreal Options simulator, John was ranked #1st at UBC, 1st in BC and 7th nationwide with a 320% return over 8 trading weeks. Mr. Martin has 3 years of work experience in a project management environment where he was involved in projects with budgets in excess of one billion dollars. He has always been fascinated with capital markets and has been involved with several finance case study presentations during his role as the JDC West finance team captain. John has been advising and managing a ~$500,000 portfolio in addition to trading with his own personal capital. He has completed the Canadian Securities Course and had aspirations of writing the CFA level 1 exam June and ultimately completing the CFA program within three years.
Trevor Frison
Fund Manager
Trevor was a UBC faculty of Management Student from Vancouver, BC. He found a passion for finance after gaining interest in money management and after being introduced to the stock market. Trevor held a position with UBCO’s PMG as a Financial Sector Head after beginning as a Materials Sector Analyst, having successful results propelling him to Co-Fund Manager for 2015/2016. Driven to promote, build and preserve the success of the club, Trevor was pushing the boundaries of the group working alongside fellow Executive Team members while monitoring the performance of the portfolio and asset allocation. After competing and placing in the top 8 at the CFA research challenge and top 25 out of 300+ teams globally at the National Investment Banking Competition, the Dream Team of Michael, John, Aneeq and himself were pretty fired up and embraced the unique experience. It was hella Lit. After completing the CSC in the February, Trevor worked towards pursuing either a CFA or CFP Designation. Currently employed as a finance/accounting assistant in North Vancouver while managing personal investments on the side after graduation and is always looking to get involved in future entrepreneural opportunities.

Tyson Chippendale
Fund Manager
Tyson was a UBC Faculty of Management student and is from the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia. Introduced to the world of finance by his grandma in the 7th grade, he became infatuated by market forces and how even the smallest things can impact a company’s future. Throughout high school Tyson invested his own savings into companies and continued to educate himself on portfolio management and how to use the power of compound interest at a young age. Tyson has been awarded the position as fund manager as he has had a dedicated effort and passion with PMG since his 1st year. Tyson was also the 2015 PMG stock competition winner returning over 15% in 3 months. Previous to fund manager, Tyson held the sector head position of Energy and Utilities. For the 2015/2016 term Tyson was co-managing the portfolio alongside Trevor Frison.
