David Koslowsky
Chairman of the Board of Directors
An Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of British Columbia, David is also the faculty mentor for the CFA Research Challenge competition. In his academic research at UBC, David explores aspects of corporate finance that affect firm performance including financial structure, board structure, and executive compensation. He also researches topics in behaviorial finance and asset pricing. From the perspective of corporate governance, he has found that the influence of director links to other boards of directors comoves with firm size; when a director holds an outside directorship at a small outside firm then it increases stock return; when the outside directorship is held at a large outside firm then it decreases risk. From the perspective of executive compensation, he has found that cash remuneration is more effective than equity remuneraion for aligning the interests of the CEO with the interests of shareholders.
David has taught classes at the Masters levels for Corporate Finance, as well as Investments, Risk Management, Entrepreneurial Finance, Capital Asset Management, Introductory and Intermediate and Advanced Corporate Finance, and Financial Statement Analysis at the undergraduate level. At UBC’s Faculty of Management, he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses, as well as supervising Masters and Ph.D. finance students. Prior to joining academia, David worked in a range of positions such as treasury board analyst, investment advisor, and management positions in government, healthcare, and consulting.
